Lately, William's face has begun to look an awful lot like the child on the right's, and I have no idea what to do about it. He seems to have moved on to bigger and better things in his eight year old life. He doesn't want to sit around twice a week while his big sister tries to teach him Spanish, and he has been becoming more and more reluctant to be my pupil in the last two weeks.
I get it, he's an eight year old boy, and he has the attention span of a vegetable, but there has to be SOME way to keep him involved and excited to learn. When we first started learning, he was excited and eager to spend time with me, and now, he offers to vacuum the living room so that he won't have to listen to me read another beginners book in Spanish.
Lately, William has been spending every waking hour playing Pokemon because it's a brand new world to him. I know that if I want to have any chance of keeping him engaged, that I'll need to spice the curriculum up, but I have no idea how.
I could try making a game with flashcards or something of the sort, but neither of us would enjoy taking the time to create a game and figure it out. People always say games are a great way to teach material, especially to children, but they never say what type of games should be played!
So I guess I'm asking for help. If anyone has any ideas, tips, tricks, and/or techniques that they can think of that might revamp the Spanish culture for my little guy, let me hear 'em! Otherwise I may have to come up with a new blog topic, but I suppose that's what I get for putting all my eggs in an eight year old boys basket.
